Project Description

Condensation from the building’s air handling system is used to supply water for the two water features located in the plaza of Austin City Hall. Capturing condensation allows for the flow of water even during times of water rationing. Water from this condensation, as much as 486 gallons per day, is routed to a 1,000 gallon storage tank located in the fountain equipment room. This water is treated and filtered before it is used in the two water features; a water wall, constructed from locally quarried limestone, and a swirl basin in the front of the courthouse. These sustainable water features helped Austin City Hall capture a LEED Gold Award from the U.S. Green Building Council.
